Overview

How can young people contribute to making their cities more accessible, safe and inclusive?

On 2–3 October 2026, the Erasmus+ project LOCT-IN – Youth as Local Policy Auditors will organise its first Local Observation Lab at Spazio Faber in Tempio Pausania, Sardinia.

The two-day event will involve young people directly in observing and discussing their local environment, identifying challenges in public spaces and developing ideas and proposals for improvement.

Participants will also have the opportunity to meet local representatives and experts, exchange perspectives and contribute to a participatory dialogue on accessibility, inclusion and youth involvement in local decision-making.

Methodology

The Local Observation Lab will use a participatory and non-formal learning approach, placing young people at the centre of the process.

Through observation activities, thematic workshops and dialogue with local stakeholders, participants will be encouraged to examine public spaces from a youth perspective, identify barriers and opportunities, and transform their observations into concrete proposals.

The event aims not only to collect young people’s views, but also to strengthen their ability to participate actively in local governance and community decision-making.

Activities

During the two-day Local Observation Lab, participants will:

  • observe and map local public spaces;
  • identify issues related to accessibility, safety and youth inclusion;
  • participate in thematic workshops;
  • meet and exchange ideas with local representatives and experts;
  • discuss young people’s experiences and needs within the local community;
  • develop proposals for improving public spaces;
  • contribute to a participatory dialogue between young people and local institutions.

The event will also mark the launch of a local Youth Observatory, designed to support continued youth participation and create a longer-term connection between young people and local governance.

Target Group

The event is addressed to young people interested in their local community, public spaces, accessibility and civic participation.

No specific professional or academic background is required. Participants should simply be motivated to share their perspectives, work with other young people and contribute ideas for a more inclusive local environment.
